HGTV’s Sarah Richardson among presenters at Ottawa Fall Home Show

If you’re a fan of Canadian interior designer and HGTV star Sarah Richardson, you’ll have a chance to sit down with her for a few minutes of personal design advice Sept. 28 at the 2018 Ottawa Fall Home Show.

As part of the Home Show, running Sept. 27 to 30 at the EY Centre on Uplands Drive, Richardson will give an hour-long talk at 6 p.m. on the event’s main stage Sept. 28. Earlier in the day, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., she will meet one-on-one with as many fans as time allows, to offer some quick design suggestions based on photos of a single room at their home.

The show’s website suggests you bring photos of one room you want to change, and if you have fabric swatches or paint colour chips, bring those along too. Richardson, host of more than eight series on the HGTV network, will offer some brief advice.

Richardson is hugely popular, so you can expect a big crowd for the sessions. If you’re interested, you’d be advised to get in line early. You might walk away with a few new design ideas you hadn’t though of for that room you’ve been wanting to redo.

Richardson is just one of several guest speakers who will appear at the Home Show, at the EY Centre on Uplands Drive.

The show is a good central source for renovation or design ideas for those projects been thinking of, whether it’s to improve your home for your own enjoyment or perhaps with a view to listing your property in the near future, with some fresh, appealing new touches to appeal to buyers.

Although we have just entered the fall season, when the housing market usually cools down a little from the peak summer period, the fall can still be a good time to list your property, as there is sometimes less competition from other sellers at this time of year than in the summer.

The Home Show will feature information booths from dozens of exhibitors, including builders, renovation companies, décor companies, interior and landscape designers, window and door suppliers and more.

Besides Richardson, other speakers are scheduled throughout the weekend.

Speakers scheduled to appear include housing industry journalist Anita Murray, who will talk about the best home renovations for return on your investment. Ottawa designer Deirdre Jorssen will talk about creating a “Pinterest-worthy” kitchen and bathroom. Paint and colour consultant Andrew Downward, who appeared regularly on the HGTV program “Divine Design,” will talk about adding colour to your home.

The show will also present hands-on workshops on subjects that include flower arranging, creating indoor planters and giving used furniture or household pieces a new life with new paint. Space in the workshops is limited. To ensure a spot, register in advance on the Home Show website.
